I don’t know what else I can say about this book that hasn’t already been said but here we go. This is a book that has to be read twice. The first time to enjoy the story and the second time to make sense of everything after knowing how it ends.
This is an easy book to read. It’s constantly going forward in it’s prose and it never slows down too much in pace. A sentence is never too long and what needs to be said is said. Fight Club has many memorable quotes and one liners, of which have been made more famous with the Fincher film.
The plot of the book covers an array thngs but it’s mainly looking at modern man and his standing in a modern Western world. We also meet the character of Marla, who shows us that it isn’t just the men who also feel inadequate in this world Palahniuk has written.
This book kept me gripped from beginning to end the only issue that I had with it is that the message given to us towards the end is just a brief bit in the end. We follow and here different viewpoints from people and those who follow them only to be told in the end ‘we just are’. I thought a better build up could have gone towards that.
If anything this book made me self aware of the world around me, what I am and what I can become.
